Many of us owe our working wlan-connection in Linux to the Ndiswrapper Project. As many Kanotix users use ndiswrapper and are very satisfied with it, Kano has decided to support the project with a donation of 100,- ¤. Giri, the head of the project, received the donation in the name of the Ndiswrapper Project yesterday and will use it to fund desperately needed test-hardware. He thanks Kano and the Kanotix users for this important aid. More info on the Ndiswrapper Project can be found here.

Stefan Lippers-Hollmann (slh) strives for new Challenges
For almost 3 years Stefan Lippers-Hollmann (slh) has contributed to Kanotix by being responsible for the Kanotix Repository and by making sure that practically all Debian Packages were compliantly packaged. Furthermore he optimized many things, supplied and tested kernels and also packaged FreeNX, that unfortunately was not accepted by Debian. FreeNX is after his resignment no longer in the Kanotix Repository.
Since financing Kanotix through donations has proved a failure and I am planning restructuring to a more stable base (be it Ubuntu or Debian will have to show in tests) and I myself regard Debian/Sid as unfortunately not compliant with a more commercial orientation, he has left the project.
Naturaly this is not the only reason, others can be viewed in his last statement.
In any case I am very much indebted to him - without him Kanotix would not be what it is today. I wish him lots of success with his new project, that will stay focused on Debian/Sid.

As most of you will know, Firefox & Thunderbird have been renamed in Debian due to trademark problems with Mozilla.org. Since Sunday we have Icedove in apt, which is the new name for Thunderbird. Firefox will follow soon, being named Iceweasel.
So, if you are missing Thunderbird, go to K-menu - Internet and start Icedove.
