Edit (Resolved): No dist-upgrade Posted by : devil on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 - 06:53 PM
Important News The issue has been resolved for kanotix, upgrades are supposed to be safe again - in case you got hit in the mean time, please upgrade xserver-xorg-core again and revert "echo xserver-xorg-core hold|dpkg --set-selections" with "echo xserver-xorg-core install|dpkg --set-selections"
--

A package, that was meant for experimental has slipped into incoming today and will most likely be in next dist-upgrade. The package is xserver-xorg 1:1.1.1-3
Until that is fixed, there are 2 ways:
-don't do dist-upgrade until further notice
-put xserver-xorg on hold with echo xserver-xorg-core hold|dpkg --set-selections

If you read this too late, you can fetch xserver-xorg-core/testing to fix things

Edit: Open Office hangs in dist-upgrade Posted by : devil on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 - 09:49 AM
Important News With todays version 2.0.3-6 the problem is fixed, so dist-upgrade runs fine again

In todays' dist-upgrade open office causes the system to hang.

Apt-get -f install has to be done and that removes the following:
openoffice.org, openoffice.org-draw, openoffice.org-impress

After apt-get -f install do a: apt-get install openoffice.org That willl pull -draw & -impress as well.

If any other errors should occur or other packages be removed, please inform us at irc #kanotix

News for VDR-Users Posted by : devil on Monday, August 14, 2006 - 09:20 AM
Important News Edit: fixed
please after dist-upgrade run from the VDR menu point 11 (VDR-Update)

VDR-Users should not dist-upgrade today, if they want to use VDR within the next 1-2 days.
vdr-plugin-xine is substituted by vdr-plugin-xineliboutput, which enables us to use VDR with the original libxine1 from debian/unstable.
For that we need to change some packages. If you have done d.-u. already, you can start VDR from the menu and the start xine from konsole with:
xine vdr:/tmp/vdr-xine/stream#demux:mpeg_pes #
You can always use kaffeine, until the new packages are in the repository.

EDIT: Forum online. Posted by : devil on Sunday, August 06, 2006 - 10:20 PM
Web Site Edit: The Forum is back online for now. We run on interimistic hardware at the moment, so we may have short interruptions in the next days. Thanks for your patience!
Due to defect hardware in our new server we had to take the forum temporarly offline tonight. There was no data lost, however. The FAQ can still be used, WIKI also, but read only. You can additional use the Forum Archive, which contains all posts till 08-1-06, to be found at archive.kanotix.com. We cannot make any guesses on how long this will last, so we ask for your patience.
However, most support problems can easily and fast be solved in our IRC #kanotix.

CMS Moved To New Server Posted by : devil on Wednesday, August 02, 2006 - 08:12 AM
Web Site Last night we moved the cms to the new server. So now we finally run under Kanotix 64 with improved hardware. We should be prepared for further growth for a while. And please, when logging in, only use http://kanotix.com, no Sub Domains (as www.kanotix.com, forum.kanotix.com), and no other Domains (kanotix.de, kanotix.net, kanotix.org). Please kill all cookies, flush cache and browser history today, before logging on to avoid problems. And now have fun with the new server.
