General Support - Xorg 6.9 vs. 7.0

With my system I definately see a difference in font resolution between 6.9 and 7.0. The former being better than the latter. Is this a problem for Xorg and Debian or is it a Kanotix problem. Will it be resolved with Kanotix release or does Xorg have to take care of the problem?

I am sticking with Cebit preview until someone tells me that Xorg 7.0 is up to what 6.9 already displays.

hm, font rendering here is at least as good as before after some adjustments.
(nothing more than fix-fonts -e & dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config)

I ran code above and found no difference. Hinting should be always.........correct?

The problem I have with latest RC4 is that my fonts appear to be blotchy. This was a problem in earlier releases of Kanotix. I did solve it with Kano's help running dpkg-reconfigure font-config a long time ago. With RC4 and Xorg 7.0 it is back and running code to reconfigure does not work. It may be only on my system but Cebit renders much better fonts. This attribute to Xorg 6.9 instead of 7.0

I have a fully dist-upgraded 2005-04 with xorg 7 and there are no issues with the fonts - I could never go back to Windows again! I have a Matrox card and use the mga driver - this is now a separated component in 7.0 but is the same driver that used to be in 6.9 - so, as would be expected, no difference.

I have only used Easter-RC4 in LiveCD mode. It automatically switched to 1280x1024 and 100dpi resolution and looked horrible compared with my normal 1024x768 and 72dpi. Is it a resolution problem?

Unlike others, I find the sub-pixel hinting - full setting makes things worse - but, as I said at the beginning, Xorg7 hasn't altered the excellent display.

Matrox Graphics, MGA G200 AGP X.Org 6.9.0 [ 1024x768 @100hz ]

I may give RC4 another go but have made several attempts and the result is still the same.
