is it possible to have information on kernel bugs or updates

so that (for example i have a sound problem) we know that a kernel update will fix any problems we may have eg you heve gone up 2 levels in just 2 weeks from 2.6.17.11-kanotix-2
will it fix my sound card problem?

thanks for your efforts guys

how can i get older kernels
the reason is that i have found a post that said the problem I have with audio and nvidia driver (http://kanotix.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=20564&highlight= ) only occurs with the 2.6.17 kernel
the http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/kanotix/kernel site has only the latest one

I have got audio playback by turning off the system sound in the kde center so i can play and record tv but i can not use audacity.
so i would like to try a 2.6.16 kernel as i do not remember this problem.

thanks

If you really need to go back to a older kernel use the script in my sig and in advanced kernel options you can choose your kernel.

the last time i used some ones script ( i do not think it was this one) . I got half way it rebooted and then wanted to access the net but since i only have dialup i did not know hot to get to the net in cli so i ended up with half an update and unusable system needeing a reboot and reinstall

is there any other method to just install an older kernel similar to kano's update

thanks

Older kernels usually do not fix problems - if a newer kernel introduces problems with devices which have been working already, it's called a "regression bug", and a lot of people in the Linux kernel team will strive hard to fix it again.
So, usually you go for the newest one - you might want testing one of those:
http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/kanotix/kernel/kernel-2.6.17.13-kanotix-2.zip
http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/kanotix/kernel/kernel-2.6.18-rc5-git6-slh-smp-1.zip
And please next time you install a new kernel, keep the old one until you're sure everything works as expected. Winken
