I need help understanding how to make the computer talk to my mobile phone. I have an LG phone, along with the appropriate LG cable, and when the cable connects the computer and the phone, the phone shows up in a list of devices attached to the system. The problem is that I cannot find software that will allow them to sync w/one another, or I simply do not understand how to make the software I have accomplish the task. My goal is to sync my PIM information with Kontact and my phone. Any advice?

Maybe bitpim works. This document while specific to Suse seems to give a decent overview of using the software. I cannot comment on the usefulness of this software since I don't have an LG phone.

Well I installed bitpim..working on configuration. But, now I am getting an error:

mime
Application/octet-stream
could not find

Now some KDE menu links don't work? any ideas

Be very careful with bitpim...broke KDE. Screwed up multiple libraries. Had to reinstall KDE after removing bitpim.

I don't use KDE so I couldn't tell you how to fix it. If you used the rpm to install bitpim then I am not at all suprised to see some problems. BitPim is distributed as open source and free software under the GNU General Public License so the source must be available somewhere. I did not see it immediately, perhaps ask the devs where it is if it's not on the site and build that instead. A word of caution - never use alien to install an rpm on a Debian system no matter who tells you it's ok.
