Titel: Newbie has a problem with folders- SOLVED
Just installed Kanotix as my main OS.
Copied all my folders, files ect from my backup external HD.
Can't access them , went to change permissions and they are all "greyed " out.
How do I solve this please, in simple steps as I'm a bit of an ignoramus as to how linux works Verlegen

Sorted, suddenly remembered I had this problem before, looked up my notes and for anybody who is interested it goes like this :-

1) press alt+F2
2) in the box that opens enter kdesu dolphin
3) Enter your password
4)Navigate to folders you want to change

You can now change all the permissions! Sehr glücklich

Most likely you need to run fsck (or chkdsk /f x: on win) as you filesystem seems to be damaged. I would not use fat for anything other than usb keys, for hd i would use ntfs due to journaling.
