ipw3945-ucode will throw a small hissy fit in dist-upgrade
Code:
Unpacking firmware-ipw3945 (from .../firmware-ipw3945_0.3_all.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/firmware-ipw3945_0.3_all.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/lib/firmware/ipw3945.ucode', which is also in package ipw3945-ucode-1.13
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/firmware-ipw3945_0.3_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
fix/workaround
Code:
apt-get -f install

etorix: Doesn't work on my machine.
I'm still left with ipw3945-ucode as a broken depenency. Until
this is fixed further dist-upgrades are forbidden.
Would installing the suggested package initramfs-tools help?
Here's my output.

fixed:
I guess there was something awry with the initial installation
of ipw3945-ucode-1.13 because after I had reinstalled it I was
able to purge it.
Thanks devil. Adding remove to the purge would probably have worked
if only I had thought of it. I guess my age is really starting to show.
Thanks everyone. This is what makes the Kanotix community such a great
bunch of guys. Problem fixed within 1/2 hour.
On the other hand my brother's Mac firmware update problem is still not
resolved after the Mac community has been tinkering with it for months. |

If you have not yet done a du and had this problem,, du-fixes-h2.sh has this fix run automatically, removing the offending package and installing firmware-ipw3945
However, this fix only works if you have not yet done a du that ends with the above error. |

that's what I did:
Code:
dpkg --force all -i /var/cache/apt/archives/firmware-ipw3945_0.3_all.deb [ENTER]
apt-get -f install [ENTER]
everything's fine now.

I was lucky enough to get this error as well. After trying some endless install -f stuff, which didn't work, I tried this, which did work:
instead of: apt-get remove --purge ipw3945-1.13
I did: dpkg --purge ipw3945-1.13
followed by an install -f to make sure. It worked fine, no hangup.
That fix is now in my updated script. |
