Hi,

Need some help, please. I've got kanotix 2006 (kernel 2.6.18) installed for a while now.

Recently I updated a number of packages with synaptic and decided that it was time for a reboot. And, lo, the reboot did give me an error 17: Cannot mount selected partition.

I had a look at the grub menu(?). The first two lines look like this
Code:
root (hd3,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-kanotix-1 root=/dev/hde1 ro quiet vga=791

If I change the first line to
Code:
root (hd0,0)

the pc starts booting but it stops at the konsole login. I've logged on as root and as normal user and tried startx but with no success.

I've also tried to change the root=/dev/hde1 entry, but that didn't work either.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks
Joe

Your system is too old to get support for it. Also the grub error has usually nothing to do with a dist-upgrade.
