Software - Guarddog doesn't allow music to play

Titel: Guarddog doesn't allow music to play
On K-easter-2006-rc4 up-to-date, I have not been able to keep the music playing after configuring Guarddog. Everything else works fine via DHCP except the music player. Kaffeine just dies soon after Guarddog is started.

If I disable the firewall, then it works again.

Any new ideas? I'll keep, binarily, turning on services until something works.

I have both CD databases checked, as well as Real audio, in the INTERNET section. Hope that sheds some light....

I migrated to Firestarter because of this. Sme music streams would play with Guarddog but not others (BBC radio for instance).

Thanks.
I've tried Firestarter and everything worked except I had to start it at each reboot.
Probably need to read up a bit. Maybe I just assumed it wasn't starting at boot?

I've got it set to start in Boot Up Manager; I see it starts as it boots up. It then runs in the background.

I think my problem was that I put it in the Boot manager as "kdesu firestarter"
which I now realize was a mistake. Traurig That's why I was always having to entr password
at boot. I'll set it up correctly.

Thanks!

i always thought firestarter ran automatically after you told it to do so. Even tho it seems like its not running- it actually is (can check this with a firewall test online)... dunno tho i dont use it as i use a router.. peace

I think you are correct.
I started it by logging in as root.
Removed it from the Start Manager.

Rebooted and went to grc.com Shields up where it passed all.
I couldn't find it in running process with htop but it's still working.

Rebooted again and tried Shields Up again and it's still running.
Out of site and out of mind, just like the Guarddog does.
I guess I was trying to over-control it. Smilie

Thanks for the tips.

firestarter configures iptables. Once configured, you don't need to have it running.
