Titel: How can I create a startup script?  BeitragVerfasst am: 11.08.2006, 20:07 Uhr

I always play music when I'm working and use kmix to control the volume. I've noticed on the liveCD, kmix is in the system tray on startup. On my hd install, it is not and I need to start it first. Since I use it all the time, I'd like it to start on boot and be in the system tray when I get to the desktop. Do I need to have a startup script to do this? If so, how do I make one? If not, how can I get the behavior I want? BTW, I'm running kde on 2005-04 which is up to date.

Thanks,
Ron

Open kmixer from kmenu > multimedia > it will shoot to the kicker > right click on kmixer > show mixer window > settings > configure kmix > check what you want checked, > apply > and on reboot will show in kicker, reboot right away to check

hmmm, I've tried that before and got no joy. Kmix opens to an alsamixer-like window, but there are no options for settings other than volume, on-off channels etc. Piper does your kmix give you a settings option? Not sure what I'm missing here.

Thanks,
Ron

feffer777, when you open KMix, do you have menus? .. I have "File", "Settings", "Help".

Under Settings, I go to Configure KMix, and I make sure that "Dock into panel" and "Enable system tray volume control" are ticked.

Next, I reboot using K > Logout (so that KDE will remember my settings).

hmmm, opening kmix as a regular user, I don't get those options! If I open as root, they appear, but then on reboot, I have to give my root password. Not what I want. Maybe I should --purge and re-install. What do you think?

Regards,
Ron

btw, Piper: how did you include the screenshot? I dragged the screenshot to the note window to get my file location path, highlighted it and hit the img tag, but this didn't seem to work. Geschockt

feffer777, not really sure why you don't have those options. Is "user" in the "audio" group ? really only thing I can think of at the moment

As for the screenshot I used ksnapshot, saved to desktop, uploaded with FTP to my little server and used the [img][/img] tags, I have to learn to make the image smaller Winken

Yea, "rp" (that's me) is in the audio group. Just to see if I can, here's the screenshot:

I'll wait for a bit before trying purge/reinstall, to see if something else comes up.

Thanks for the help on this.

Ron

feffer777, how about dist-upgrading with h2's script, as it has various fixes, and see if that makes a difference?

Otherwise, purging and reinstalling would be my next try.

Swynndla, actually I did use h2's script this morning, so I think the system is pretty much ok.
It's kind of mysterious why I don't get the settings menu as a regular user.
Guess I'll do the purge/reinstall tomorrow. Thanks for your help though.

Regard

Before you purge/reinstall try (while kmix is open) Ctrl + M

@piper, to make your pic's smaler, Screensize is ex.: 1024x768 same as normal snapshot-wholescreen, you can configure ksnapshot to set the pic-size to 640x480 for save. This does not affect windowed-snapshots.

If this does not help, use any other imageing-program to resize the pic. And save it under a new name.

Well, Piper, you nailed it. Ctrl+M opens up those menu items.

That's embarrassing, prolly in the kde dox too.
Verlegen

Swynndla: as you said, just saving the session is an easy way to keep kmix in the system tray, without needing a startup script.

Thanks for the help,
Ron

to add anything to any panel/taskbar, right click, select add program or applet to panel. In this case, kmix is called 'sound mixer' and is an applet, it's actually just a mini gui version of kmix, but has the same options I believe, I just use its single master volum control because I don't like cluttering up my taskbars.
