Is anyone else having trouble upgrading Open Office? When I tried, aptitude removed the entire package instead. I'm trying again with openoffice.org/testing, but even it complains about unmet dependencies.

Try to uncomment the unstable Debian Repository in the sources.list, and then apt-get update. After that, you should be able install Open Office again. You can comment out the unstable Debian Repository in the sources.list once you have successfully installed Open Office.

Just curious what kind of foolish things will happen if someone comment out unstable repo in an unstable distro, thanks.

Had the same problem recently. The unstable version of OOo was broken,
while the testing version was/is stable.

Actually, currently leaving the unstable repo commented out.
Using only testing and kanotix for dist-upgrade to give myself
a bit more time to review the forum. And avoid breaking the
box I work on every day. I have decided to stop breaking the
setup I depend on. Finally. I hope.

Until some weekend when there are some nice, new things
in the pipeline.

This isn't a general problem. My 2005-04 installation d-upgrade to the 2.04 OpenOffice without any problems.

I also upgraded openoffice without problems.
BTW I didn't have any problems with the udev upgrade either.

I had a serious resources crisis using the OOo204rc1-1 from unstable.
Changed back to testing. Removed 204rc1-1, reinstalled 203-6.
All is well. Recommend OOo203-6 for your files sake.

My problems surfaced in the properties area of paragraph styles.
Drove the CPU to 99% and stayed until I gave up. About 5 min.
Maybe I gave up to easy, but the fix was even easier.

That is the reason why I use "testing" repos with a stable distro.
The distro is fine, but sometimes the cutting edge is too sharp
for all uses.

Regards,
Richard.
