After few DUs, from the Control Panel has disappeared section "Kanotix", which I often used. Just wonder if that is due to any changes in the distro or something went wrong? Cheers.

all the items can be found in lost/found in kmenu or just use knxcc from konsole for now.

I also have this problem. Plus when I try to use the root password in a graphical box it doesn't recognise the password. I tried changing passwords but it didn't help. So I re-install Kanotix and I try to be careful with what programs I get/update with apt-get. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I only recently got apt-get to work on this laptop. (A nameserver problem)

The password problem in KDE is known. A few days earlier it could be fixed with 'apt-get install kdebase' but now it needs a full dist-upgrade because many KDE packages were updated recently. A re-install is definitly not needed for this single problem.

Thanks. I'm still learning. At least I can now re-instal and set everything up very quickly! It's still quicker and easier than re-installing Windows. Sehr glücklich

If there are all this problems with KDE updating for the moment why is there no warning about that on the news and start site? Normaly there are warnings when dist-upgrade is causing problems.

I think because very few people are having any problems with kde update. I haven't seen any issues on any install for this update, it's fairly transparent. My script has a warning about the disappearing knxcc-kde, but since that really isn't a serious problem [you can access all functionality using plain knxcc] it's not really necessary to warn, and it will be fixed at some point.

Many times kde update problems are caused by users updating inside of kde, which is not a practice that anyone recommends, so problems deriving from that action are not actually warning type problems, since it's essentially user error.

Not sure why but I replied to this and the post 'disappeared'.

I agree with h2; I have d-ued every day without any problems othr than knxcc disappearing from the Control Panel. I have yet to be caught out by a d-u as all serious issues are picked up very quickly by Kanotix forum members, particularly devil (the name is obviously a misnomer, angel would be more appropriate!).

I think h2 is right. I didn't upgrade kde in kde as such, but some of the programs I tried to install also updated kde. This could have been my problem. I upgraded kde from outside kde and everything worked fine. I've even got a whole lot of new programs!
Like I said before, I'm still learning. But thats what I like about Linux. It's taken me six months, but now I have a fully functioning Linux laptop with all the functionality of Windows. (I'm still trying to make it Hibernate though)
I enjoy the challene of learning and finding solutions and in Linux there is always an answer out there.
