Chris, we all know you don,t like a certain other distro and a lot of us agree, from the various other posts in this forum but what is the point of this. The answer depends on each individuals criteria, so will vary, there is no right answer. Any poll is only as relevant as the questions. Your real question seems to be a choice between Ubuntu ( and Gnome ? ) and most other Distros which is a bit of a no brainer on the Kanotix forum.

Choice is good, but it is not good if a system becomes untidy because of too many progs for the same task, e.g. aMSN, Kopete, SIM and GAIM on one system as IMs.

This forum definitely isn't slashdot hey? On slashdot, the moral implications of a snail climbing over a rock would generate 27 pages of arguments.

I don't want to make choices. The TV does all my thinking. Tell me what to do oh magic box and I will blindly obey. Winken

More choices are better, as long as there's other choices besides Micro$oft

Well only 1 choice is fine for everyone. As long as we can make it ourselves. Winken

I agree with hey_ian; more choices are good but in certain case it's better to make a choice and focus your work on it

Choice is good but, all distros are bloated. We need a few installer rules all could follow. Someone said in passing, that even linux distros are victim to M$ bloat problem's. What is needed is just a simple install menu of option's. From just the kernal and a shell of choice (bash-korn ect ect) to I WANT IT ALL!! and of course someplace in between. This even could be extended to any DVD of a collection of distro's. We like controlled control. Even more choice's is a good thing!!

I have to presume you haven't installed Debian.

At some point you have to decide what packages you want...
there are several ways to do this....
netinstall will have you make them at the install time...
Kanotix gives you the chance to try before you decide.... so you get 2GB of apps pre-installed with the chance to deinstall what you don't want or reinstall something you do.

Whichever of these methods you decide to use you still have to choose at some point.

Choices can be confusing in some instances and that usually complicates decisions.
Choices can also be made up, when in reality there is no difference between choices.
True Choices are empowering and good to have.

Debian Vs FreeBSD can be choices, or Mac vs Windows are true choices and good to have.
Sometimes things that are very similar, can be presented as further choices, but here it's more of a matter of taste rather than "Choices" and we all know tastes can be very different even in the same family.
