I have been messing around with FreeNX - remote display tech for accessing your Linux desktop from anywhere - and just posted a HOWTO:

http://biohackery.com/node/38

Of course, having the necessary pkgs pre-installed in Kanotix is half the battle right there... This stuff is seriously fun (and useful)! If you have never checked it out, I highly recommend it - the speed is pretty remarkable, and has many novel applications. One of the things I am going to use it for is to remotely administer the Linux box at my folks' place.

I would love to hear feedback from other FreeNX users on how you put it to use...

Thanks dwa, you have some very clear howto's on your site, I'll check out the freenx in a few days.

Thank you... I hope it proves useful.

I am amazed that FreeNX has not caused more of a stir... beyond the usefulness of having your own Linux desktop accessible at a speed that is *usable* from any net-enabled box, I think everyone here has a friend or family member they have turned on to Linux... and having the ability to troubleshoot their boxes via remote desktop is very handy.

hey folks,
i have only one problem with the freenx client: when i get disconnected, my session is lost. according to the nomachine website, the free client/server should be able to reconnect to lost sessions since version 1.something. anyway, i couldn't find informations on how-to. anybody knows anything?

When you exit a session you are given the choice to terminate the session or suspend it. Obviously only suspended sessions can be resumed. Lost sessions, where termination is involuntary, are lost, as far as I know.
