Hi Linuxy.
If you like simple, non-accelerated "blast 'em up" games, try 'Penguin Command' this is a enhanced clone of arcade classic 'Missile Command'.
A great "bat 'n' ball" game is 'LBreakout2' As suggested, a 'Breakout' clone -- Both games are on Debian repo's. and are small in size |

Supertux (a nice Super Mario-Clone) is already on the CD.
Freeciv is very popular and good if you like civ-games. At the moment I play "Battle for Wesnoth" |

Thanks Severin, I found KPackman-0.3.2.tar.gz
Did a ./configure --prefix=?usr (Which I believe is the standard for Debian Distro's) and everything wnt OK.
Then did make and got this error message:
cc1plus: warning: command line option "-Wmissing-prototypes" is valid for Ada/C/ObjC but not for C++
After this there are a number of other make errors.
Tried Synaptic to locate these but cn not find them.
Any idea's
Thanks
Snnoopy
PS: To All,
Will try the other links as well, but I would really like to get Pacman to work if I can |

| Your going to have some troubles with compile stuff directly for kde because most of it depends on kdelib4 not kdelib4c or whatever it is called. |

Don't I know it.
I am trying to use Konstruct to download and compile KDE 3.5 Alpha 1 in order to avoid the need to rely on deb packages but it is taking a long time for it to finnish. (Slow m/c Intel 3 @ 550mhz).
Kano is right when he says that Debian is a 2 - 3 year development cycle.
Even the much vaunted KUbunto still have not got 3.4.2 fully functional.
I am not a techy, but I can apprecaitr the headaches of maintaining new upgrades. It's just a shame that Kanotix are not able to maintain it's own versions of current KDE packages.
Better still would be to presuade mein kinder that Packman and Carmen will work on Linux - you just call them by a differnt name
Cheers,
Snoopy |

Jackiebrown,
Yes I can, and have.
From the menu entry the window opens and then closes straight away.
From a Konsole I get:
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
Serial number of failed request: 27
Current serial number in output stream: 31
Don't know what this means, and even if I did I would probabally not be able to fix it.
Worth the try though, thanks |

These guys have some very high quality games for Linux. Not free but the downloads are functional and some of them are actually fun.

linuxy,
You can check out the "alter-ego" forums of Kanotix, where Kanotix, in essence, came from, and they also "steal" a lot of what Kano devolps...
Called Knoppix, they also have forums, and, in particular, have a "Games" Forum...
Just to be of more help, here is the link, see if you can find other games through this other source, as well
Games Forum of Knoppix

apt-get install ace-of-penguins
^A bunch of card games, a mastermind app, and a few others
apt-get install black-box.
^Another great game in which you have to place crystals where they will bend the laser beams to get to their destinations. |

I am personally not all to into video games but one thing I do love is the super nintendo emulater, hook up a gamepad and Super Mario Brothers will keep me busy for a while when I get bored.
Quote:
Apt-get install zsnes
And then search google for the snes roms. I've tryed this with Kanotix and it works perfectly: sound, usb gamepad, and all. |

No Kidding?!!
I've never tried my sidewinder gamepad but I was just playing Supertux and thinking to myself that if I could use a gamepad it would absolutely rule! I just assumed it wouldn't work.....I gotta try it now. Any thing I need to know? |

Don't know about a sidewinder, but my logitech cordless rumblepad 2 worked after loading the modules usbhid, evdev and joydev.
The kernel has direct support for sidewinders:
~$ zgrep SIDEWINDER /proc/config.gz
# CONFIG_JOYSTICK_SIDEWINDER is not set |
