Wait...where are the kanotix kernels.I only see SLH kernels.
Also where are the older ones located again?
I am useing 2.6.17-kanotix-1 and would like to update.
Also,I know its been mentioned but whats the difference's in the slh vs kanotix kernels? |

kano's latest kernels were all smp-kernels. right now slh builds both, up & smp for 32 & 64 bit.
you can use them in the same way as kano kernels before, i never had a single issue with them.

I can agree with devil.
My last 2 (at least) kernel upgrades have all been
slh's and I've never had a problem. I use Kano's
Kanotix-Update-GUI for my kernel updates. It's
neat and even does the re-installation of the NVidia
drivers. Excellent! |

The only difference that I could find with kano's and slh's kernel is that slh doesn't include bootsplash functionality in his kernels.
So if you like bootsplash over splashy, you'll miss it. However, having a updated kernel (security, new features, etc) is worth the lost of bootsplash. |

I have installed, for mistake, smp kernel
and now I woul dile remove it
in konsole as root:
dpkg --purge --force-remove-essential kernel-image-2.6.17.7-slh-smp-1
but:
dpkg - warning: ignoring request to remove kernel-image-2.6.17.7-slh-smp-1 which isn't installed.
Why? |

Script now features option to install either slh's latest rc stuff or the last stable release, non rc labeled. RC means release candidate, not a final release. Please read the page piper linked to before downloading the script and running it.
Also, for others reading this, please wait a decent amount of time before removing older kernels, sometimes something doesn't work and you don't notice it right away. You can download some, but not all, older kernels in my script. If anyone has the 2.6.16.20 slh 32 and 64 bit kernels sticky me, I'd like to put those up for people who might need the latest 2.6.16 because something isn't working in 2.6.17 series. |

I am assumeing mdadm and raid works.
I will update,if I need to edit anything that isnt a problem either....if I remember,its been awhile.
Anyone have the link to the old thread on editing the kernel to remove or add what you want...couldn't find it on search?
Maybe a small,to the point tutorial.For the most part,I remember but not sure if anything in the standard routine changed. |

My advice. Always use Kanotix-update-gui. You never have to worry about removing present kernals, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to an older kernal (forget which file it is at the moment). The only time I had a prob was when a KDE update was buggy. Add this to your source.list and you never will regret it.

| My fault actually, with h2's script You Don't Have to Remove Old Kernel and is advised to keep the old one for awhile to make sure everything works ok. I was posting the way I do things which is not good practice for most, and is my mistake |
