Hello.

After I upgraded recently, kde autoplay stopped working. Previously I had configured it so that if I put a DVD to my USB dvd burner (or plugged the USB cable in and the disk was already inside the burner) it opened xine and started playing the DVD.

Now nothing happens.

I see the autoplay and automount options are disabled from the Control Centre -> Peripherals -> Storage Device

The 3.5.4 had some hal related changes, so they might have broken the stuff.

In my experience, the usb/firewire plug and play has never worked properly with KDE. I have used gnome-volume-manager in ~/.kde/Autostart so that I get some response from USB actions.

If your /etc/fstab has an item for your usb dvd burner, you have to comment it out, reboot, then see if it works properly. The new hal stuff handles all of this for you, although the one thing I haven't tested is a usb/firewire cdrom/dvdrom, all other usb/firewire stuff is now working far better than I've ever seen before, especially firewire for me.

drb, great, what happened I think is that hal was working with a bunch of different hacks, and the latest kde/hal updatees are fixing those hacks, and making the user experience much better long term. Obviously, these changes can catch all of us off guard, they did me too, I said: oh, there's a problem, can't see my /media/sdd1 drive anymore, hal is broken etc, but all it is is that there is a new way of dealing with external drive mounts, /media/disk etc

That's the fun part of being on a sid based distro, lol... you are in the development live, real time.

There was no fstab entry for the burner.

I have an external usb harddisk also and kde detects that just fine and asks what to do when I plug it in.

Darn. I spent many hours to get the friggin autoplay to work and now it's gone again. Not even gnome-volume-manager can help me..
