HP Desktop P3/550 256MB Ram.
The CD writer on this PC was used to make the boot CD.
The CD will boot on another PC.

After POST, the CD is addressed then, the Hard Disk traffic light comes on and the monitor shows: "Loading Stage 1.5 ."

Then nothing.

The Image MD5 checked good.
This is an older PC so the record speed was 1.0x.
DAO was used.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you are attempting an install then IMHO your hard drive
is failing.

The last time I saw "Loading Stage 1.5." was on a failed
hard drive. In my case I could do an install but Grub (the
bootloader) produced "Loading Stage 1.5" when attempting
to boot to the hard drive.
Running fsck on the disk showed bad sectors all over the place.
I replaced the hard drive and all was well.

I am not trying to install. Just boot as Live CD. Both ver 4 and 5 of Knoppix boot without issue.
The hP website shows no need to upgrade the BIOS.
Thanks Kano and clubex.

Hitchup,

in a similar situation, I added ide=nodma (or simply nodma) to the boot parameters, and from that point on things worked "slow but well" ...

devil,
Faq directions seem to require a harddrive partition. I am not quite ready to re-partition. I want to place the iso on the harddrive and use a boot floppy to pull it in and try to work around the "Loading Stage 1.5 ." issue that prevents the Live CD boot.

Can it be done?

Thanks,
hitchup
