Hi all
Poor Kano must be very stressed in there at present, overworked and dreadfully underpaid, He also told me to use something else after I filed a bug report he did not agree with, a bit strong too. I had used Kanotix since early on (was it 2003 or before?) and he had always been so helpful and despite eveything replying himself.
The financial difficulties there mean all us thousands of users should donate a little to this wonderful project
Quote jebuss197
"Anyway it's a bit strong in my view Kano implying that I'm not welcome to use Kanotix - and that I should go away and use Ubuntu, just because I asked if there was a way to still instal the original Firefox through apt. I really didn't mean to offend anyone by asking. But if you are serious I will take you at your word. I genuinely wouldn't want to use anything that I am not really welcome to use."
Best of luck

well, the firefox-problem was discussed after this post of jebuss197. and it seems that you can't use the original firefox when you are using kanotix or plain debian, so the solution really would be to use ubuntu. this has nothing to do with "you are not welcome", it's just a fact, that it isn't really possible to use the original firefox without much work.

| There is really no point to install firefox unless you just like the branding on your web browser. Iceweasel to a normal user is just firefox with a different stamp on it. |

I am using the original Firefox on my Kanotix laptop, mainly to satisfy my curiosity, as I have to admit. - Although it took me merely a couple of minutes to get things going, the "original" comes as a mixed blessing, for the "bastard" is much better integrated to the system by default.

I may have mentioned this before but I have always used Firefox, Thunderbird, whatever, straight from Mozilla without any problems whatsoever. Reason? I am not a Linux geek and I want everything in my home folder where I can find it if need be without searching for all the bits and pieces throughout Kanotix. I have been with Kanotix and Firefox since day one and all version changes, updates, etc. have gone without a hitch. Sorry Linux purists! |

Please don't quote me to make your point. I support Kano 100%.
I think he is just so busy trying to maintain Kanotix, and trying to find a job etc, that maybe he only has time for very short answers.
I'm sure he probably didn't mean to seem rude at all. |

I agree, stress or not, as long as I've been visiting these forums many of kano's answers have been very short and to the point. It's just his way. |

Yes, Kano also helped me a lot and I am very much indebt to him. Even when I posted very simple, newbie-like questions, his answers were technical and short, but not shorter than they had to be so I would always work my problems out. |
