          | I know these are vague questions, but is 2006-01-RC4 reasonably stable as a working system intended for use by a semi-literate linux home user? I.e. not a command line guru or developer.
Alternatively, would it be safe to do a dist-upgrade on a 2005-04 version, while keeping user data intact, or would it be better to do a fresh update-install of 2006-01-RC4 instead?

Or is perhaps the best option to stick with 2005-04 at this moment in time?

Thank you for any advise on this trivial dilemma...

Happy Xmas and New Year to all Kanotix developers/users!!

          | I had no big problem so far with Kanotix 2006-01-RC4 (now migrated to Sidux). Maybe you want to make atleast one dist-upgrade after installing it to solve some possible problems (like kdesu not accepting your root password). Kanotix 2005-04 is not cleanly upgradable anymore, so it's not recommended to use it longer except you don't care how current your Linux installation is. |

          | OK - thanks for the good tip!
 I'll try 2006-01-RC4 install update + dist-upgrade.
