Can't seem to get any sound from it, mousepad does not work.....and when I plug a mouse in the OS goes crazy-opening and closing windows. Any help would be appreciated.

For sound open konsole and type alsaconf

If still no sound please post the output of cat /proc/asound/modules

What kind of mouse do you have ? Ps2 or USB ? What make ? [logitech,M$, etc....] wired/wireless ?

If USB can you post the output of lsusb

When I type alsaconf in the Konsole it automatically goes to a configurator asking what sound card I want to use.(nm256, opl3sa2, legacy) When I enter cat /proc/asound/modules nothing shows up.

I solved the mouse problem by just using the mouse as a usb device.

Is there anyway I can the mousepad to work on the laptop?

lol, (laughing at himself) mousepad should have told me you were using a laptop.

hmm, cat /proc/asound/modules shows nothing

Can you show me the output of

lspci
cat /proc/interrupts
cat /proc/ioports

You can try running alsaconf again, the NM256 "should" work if not try the opl3sa2 (I believe all of them are part of the Yamaha opl3sa2 family) if those 2 above don't work try legacy.

Please post back if it works/don't work Winken

You should have something like this in your xorg.conf for the mousepad

Section "Pointer"
Protocol "PS/2"
Device "/dev/psaux"
SampleRate 60
Emulate3Buttons
Emulate3Timeout 200
BaudRate 1200
EndSection

Mike

I think qsynaptics is intended to help with the touchpad and is included with Kanotix, but I don't know anything about it.

Could you tell me where all this is located and how to tweak it?? I'm new at all of this. I'm willing to learn....

Why does it always say that no soundcard is found in every instance of trying to find a driver?
