I have a couple of webcams, one being spca5xx based.
Now this webcam has always worked on amsn on all distros (except suse 10.1) but I never got it to work with kopete, I would just get a green screen.
Well I've got round to setting up kopete on kanotix and the webcam works perfectly but only with the kanotix kernel.
Unfortunately, I am unable to use kanotix kernels because they cause my modem to crash so I use debian sid ones.
So my question is - How do I get this module working in non kanotix kernels? |

apt-cache search spca
see if there's a pre-compiled module for your kernel. if not, apt-get the source and build it. didn't do that, so you will be on your own with the source, but it shouldn't be a big problem. |

| Ok I installed the module for my kernel but all I get with kopete is the green screen problem. |

Hi, I'm from Brazil, and I have a webcam (sunplus) that used to work with spca5xx, but now, it doesn't work anymore. And I not found the repositories to download the sources. I've tried to download the gspca source and to compile, but I'm getting a compilation error. Does anyone could help me?
I have some experience in programming, but I cannot solve this problem until now... I'm using kanotix hellfire with kernel 2.6.38-5. Everything is working, except the cam.

Try your cam with preload
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
and to compare without
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 skype
can be used for other apps too. In case of skype the autostarted skype will not work when you need that override. |
